Long Beach Sports Calendar Feb. 6-9

Find out where your favorite Long Beach teams are playing this weekend.

THURSDAY

High School Girls’ & Boys’ Basketball, 5 & 6:30 p.m.

The Moore League boys’ basketball championship will be officially decided at Millikan tonight when defending champion Long Beach Poly comes in for the regular season finale. The Rams have clinched at least a share of the title.

The Poly girls’ will be trying to finish off another undefeated league championship. In other action, Wilson is hosting Cabrillo while Lakewood visits Jordan.

Long Beach City College Baseball vs. Irvine Valley, 2 p.m.

The Vikings are at home today for the second of three games against Irvine Valley this week. LBCC will play three road games following this contest.

FRIDAY

High School Basketball, TBD

If there is a tie for the last guaranteed playoff spot in Moore League boys’ or girls’ basketball, a tiebreaker will be played this evening.

Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball vs. No. 7 Penn State, 2 p.m.

The Beach is on the road this weekend for the second tournament of the season at Ohio State. LBSU will face Penn State this afternoon before taking on the host Buckeyes at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Long Beach State Softball vs. Nevada, 8 p.m.

This weekend the Beach is back in Mexico for the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. LBSU will play five games in three days, and have a massive challenge with No. 3 Oklahoma on the schedule. The Beach will also take on Utah Valley, George Washington and Oregon.

Long Beach City College Men’s & Women’s Basketball at L.A. Southwest, 5 p.m.

The Vikings men’s and women’s basketball teams are playing a South Coast Conference doubleheader at L.A. Southwest tonight. This is the third consecutive road game for both squads.

SATURDAY

High School Wrestling, 12 p.m.

The best wrestlers in Long Beach are at Lakewood High today for the Moore League individual finals. The champions and qualifiers will advance to the CIF Southern Section individual tournament on Feb. 14-15.

Long Beach State Women’s Basketball at Cal Poly, 2 p.m.

The Beach is tied for second place in the Big West Conference and can keep pace with first-place UC Davis with a win on the road over last-place Cal Poly. Mustangs forward Sierra Campisano ranks second in the conference with 16.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. LBSU has lost four of its last six games against Cal Poly, but picked up a 72-69 win over the Mustangs in the Big West opener last month.

Long Beach State Women’s Tennis vs. San Diego State, 1 p.m.

This is the second match of a four-match homestand at Rhodes Tennis Center to kick off the spring schedule for LBSU. The Beach beat SDSU last year in nonconference action.

Long Beach State Women’s Water Polo vs. Loyola Marymount, 9:50 a.m.

The Beach is taking on the Lions for the second consecutive week, but this time it’s at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla. LBSU will play three more matches today and Sunday to finish the tournament.

SUNDAY

CIF Southern Section Playoff Bracket Releases, Noon

The boys’ and girls’ basketball playoff schedule will be set today for all of the local teams. The boys’ and girls’ soccer brackets were released on Saturday morning along with girls’ water polo.
