HIGH SCHOOL

Iyanna Lamb, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Long Beach Poly took sixth place at the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona, with a win over the No. 12 team in the nation. Senior guard Iyanna Lamb led the Jackrabbits in scoring and earned All-Tournament honors for her performance.

Anthony Robinson, Long Beach Poly Basketball

Long Beach Poly junior Anthony Robinson had a strong game on the road at Jordan in the Moore League opener. Robinson, whose grandfather coached at Jordan for several years, had 15 points, nine assists, seven steals, and two rebounds in an 88-45 victory.

Ashley Hawkins, Wilson Basketball

Wilson improved to 7-3 last week with an impressive win over St. Anthony, and once again it was Ashley Hawkins leading the way. Hawkins had 34 points and four assists in the victory as the junior led the Bruins to a 73-68 victory.

COLLEGE

Shanaijah Davison, Long Beach State Basketball

The Long Beach State women’s hoops team entered the week with a 3-7 record, but went 2-1 at the USC Tournament behind two big games from Shanaijah Davison. The junior dropped 26 points in an OT win over Air Force and 17 points in a win over Rio Grande Valley. 

 

Mike Guardabascio
An LBC native, Mike Guardabascio has been covering Long Beach sports professionally for 13 years, with his work published in dozens of Southern California magazines and newspapers. He's won numerous awards for his writing as well as the CIF Southern Section’s Champion For Character Award, and is the author of three books about Long Beach history.
