The Avalon Lancers started their 8-man football season with a 73-14 win over visiting Ocean View Christian on Saturday.

Quarterback Antonio Ramos completed five of his six pass attempts for 254 yards, and he also ran for 115 yards in his first start behind center. Beto Martinez set a school record with 210 yards receiving in the game.

The Avalon defense was outstanding with Gustavo Hernandez leading the way with 11 tackles and a sack. Adrian Rodriguez had an interception.

Avalon (1-0) travels to Foothills Christian on Friday.
