Season Preview: Lakewood Boys’ Water Polo

The Lakewood Lancers are coming off of a rebuilding year, so coach Phil Geiger said he has a very different outlook on this season for his Lancers.

“Lots of youth and inexperience meant that we were developing fundamentals all season long,” Geiger said. “I have a big group of sophomores who spent last season learning the ropes, but they’re doing big things so far this season.”

Seniors Roman Arrieta, Kobe Heaton and Dylan Salazar are the team captains and experienced backbone of this young squad.

The Lancers feel like a successful season would be finishing in the top three in league, but more importantly being over .500 and reaching the postseason. Lakewood is in Division 7.

“We are focused on building a record that will earn us a CIF berth,” Geiger said. “However, we always strive to compete as best we can within our league. If we can hold our own in league, I like our odds outside of it.”
