Baseball: Moore League Takes Down SGVL In All-Star Game

For the third straight year, the Moore League topped the San Gabriel Valley League 4-2 during the Kiwanis Senior All-Star Game Friday night at Downey High.

The SGVL jumped to 1-0 lead during the top of the second inning on a throwing error after Poly’s Jesse Simon gave up back-to-back singles to Gahr’s Jorge Renteria and Brian Munoz.

Lakewood’s ace pitcher and right fielder Ricky Tiedemann tied things up in the bottom half of the inning when he launched an RBI double to center field. Tiedemann went on to win the MVP award with his RBI.

“I felt like I should have made the team last year, but I didn’t and I just used that to grow and become a better players,” Tiedemann said. “This was a lot of fun and this team really bonded.”

The Moore League’s Jacob Ribitzki (Wilson), Adrian Lopez (Jordan) combined for three scoreless innings.

SGVL took a 2-1 lead when Downey’s Jesus Liera hit an RBI double at the top of the sixth inning.

After stranding four runners in the sixth and seventh innings, the Moore League scored three runs in the eighth inning thanks to an error field error and an RBI single from Jordan’s Jesse Chavira.

“This was great and cool because this was my first all-star game,” Chavira said. “We’re enemies during season but when it comes to this game, we showed were the best league.”
