CIF Track: Millikan, Lakewood Send Four To Masters

Millikan and Lakewood share the same blueprint for their campuses, and the two schools had very similar days on Saturday at the CIF-SS Division 1 Track & Field Finals, with young talent showing that the future is bright for the Rams and Lancers.

Millikan’s Samarra Monrroy finished second in the 400 and eighth in the 200, impressing with a 54.87 time in the quarter mile. Monrroy, just a freshman and already a league champion in the event and a CIF-SS silver medalist, qualified for Masters in the 400. Alan Tabales was the other Ram to advance, clearing 6’4” in the high jump to earn a fifth place finish and a spot in next weekend’s Masters Meet.

Lakewood sophomore Cherish Washington had a great day, earning second in the Division 1 shot put with a heave of 40 feet, and sixth in the discus with a 134-05. Washington advanced to Masters in both events, giving Millikan and Lakewood a fearsome foursome to cheer on next Saturday.
