CIF Baseball: Long Beach Poly Edges Palos Verdes

The Moore League champion Long Beach Poly baseball team won a thrilling first round CIF-SS Division 3 playoff game against Palos Verdes, 5-4.

Edgar Rosales had a two-RBI double in the first inning as Poly built a 3-0 lead, but the Jackrabbits found themselves trailing 4-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. Poly scored twice in the bottom of the sixth with starting pitcher Jess Simon scoring the tying run and Troy Criss knocking in the go-ahead RBI with two outs to put Poly up 5-4.

Simon went the complete game with two earned runs allowed, five strikeouts, and no walks.

Poly will play the winner of Great Oak and Apple Valley on Tuesday in the second round.
