Congratulations to this week’s Athletes of the Week and thanks to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

YOUTH

Nathan Dowdell, Newcomb Track

Newcomb Middle School eighth grader Nathan Dowdell won the All-City middle school championship in the 100 meter sprint last week, with a blazing time of 11.12, which would be a top 15 in the State this year for high schoolers. Dowdell’s 11.12 also breaks a 42-year old Long Beach All-City record in the event.

HIGH SCHOOL

Jacob Ribitzki, Wilson Baseball

Junior Jacob Ribitzki started his first varsity game for Wilson last week, and made it a memorable one. Ribitzki threw a complete game no-hitter for the Bruins in a win over Woodbridge. Ribitzki was one error shy of a perfect game, and needed just 77 pitches to finish the game against Woodbridge.

COLLEGE

Jace Bass, LBCC Basketball

Jace Bass stepped up for the Vikings with a conference championship on the line last week against LA Southwest. Bass played all 40 minutes of the game and racked up 39 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in what ended up being an easy LBCC victory.

Nichole Fry, LBSU Softball

Nichole Fry continues to power the Long Beach State softball team, and led them to a big win over North Carolina last weekend. Fry had 5 hits, 5 RBI, and 3 runs scored in the 8-4 win, driving in or representing all of Long Beach’s runs. She had three homeruns in the weekend tournament.
