PREVIEW: Lakewood Girls’ Water Polo

Lakewood is building a program under coach Max Taylor, and is looking to win games this year with a defensive identity. With offensive firepower at the other Moore League playoff teams, Taylor said he’s glad that his team’s best player is sitting in the cage every day, with senior goalie Calla Torres able to keep them in a lot of games.

“We play really hard defense backed by (Torres), who always knows how to pull off big saves when they seem like guaranteed goals,” said Taylor.

The goal is to get into the playoffs and try to make some noise, but Taylor said he’s happy with the growth he’s seeing in his team.

“We always have high expectations but my main goal is for everyone to grow as players,” said Taylor. “I have a passion for water polo, so passing it on means a lot to me.”
