The Cabrillo boys’ water polo program made history on Wednesday at Garden Grove High in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 7 playoffs. The Jaguars beat La Quinta 11-7 for their first ever postseason victory.
Cabrillo senior Cory Thompson had a game-high four goals, while Noe Villalon and Guy Gainer each scored twice.
“Our squad is on board with representing the vaunted Long Beach aquatics tradition,” Cabrillo coach Lawrence Durand said.
Cabrillo (14-7) hosts Tahquitz in the second round on Saturday.
