HIGH SCHOOL

Emi Sverduk, Wilson Golf

For the first time in Moore League history, a freshman won the individual league title.Sverduk birdied the last hole of the shortened final round to become the sixth consecutive Bruin to take the title. Sverduk’s front nine wasn’t her best, but she recovered on the 10th and birdied the final hole to take the trophy.

Onye Ofoegbue, Long Beach Poly Volleyball

Poly senior Onye Ofoegbue helped the Jackrabbits take over against Mira Costa in a three-set sweep last week. The UC Irvine commit had 12 kills and five blocks on 16 swings, with no blocking errors. Ofoegbue had three kills and a block in a 6-0 run during Poly’s come-from behind third-set win over the Mustangs.

Albert Fuller, Millikan Football

Rams senior Albert Fuller had two interceptions for the Rams in a thrilling 21-20 win over Wilson, which gave Millikan control of second place. Fuller and the rest of the Rams defense had four takeaways, with Jayden Davis grabbing another pick. Millikan’s defense came up big at the end of the game with Zach Martin breaking up what would have been a game-winning two-point conversion by Wilson.

Alex Austin, Long Beach Poly Football

Long Beach Poly senior Alex Austin went to Corvalis last weekend for his official visit to Oregon State, where he’s committed to play after graduating Poly. He went up there on a high note, too, after a great game against Lakewood. Better known as a lock-down DB, Austin had a kickoff return for a touchdown and 80 receiving yards against the Lancers, plus a touchdown catch.
