PREVIEW: Long Beach Poly at Lakewood Football

Long Beach Poly closes the regular season tonight on the road against Lakewood, looking to sew up an undefeated Moore League championship. The Jackrabbits (7-2, 5-0) have outscored league opponents 191-21, a margin that would likely have been bigger if lightning hadn’t ended last week’s game against Jordan a few minutes into the second quarter with the score just 20-0.

“We’re a little disappointed to not be able to get more work for our seniors in at the end of the season,” said Poly coach Stephen Barbee. Because the team has a bye week next week and they only played 14 minutes against the Panthers, Poly will need to use practices to sharpen up for the playoffs.

“We’ve been having really competitive practices and I think that’s good,” said Barbee. “We’ve got to be the ones to challenge ourselves.”

Poly will await the playoff brackets after this game while Lakewood will finish against Cabrillo, with a shot at making the playoffs as the league’s third seed.
