Here are a few Long Beach sporting events happening this weekend.

THURSDAY

High School Girls’ Volleyball, 4:30 p.m.

Today marks the second round of Moore League play, and it is headlined by first-place Poly hosting Millikan. In other action, Wilson is at Cabrillo and Jordan is at Compton.

High School Girls’ Golf, 2:30 p.m.

The fourth day of Moore League action features two matches at Recreation Park Golf Course 18. League leaders Wilson will take on Lakewood while Millikan plays Cabrillo.

High School Girls’ Tennis, 3 p.m.

The marquee matchup of the day is at Wilson where the Bruins are hosting Millikan. Elsewhere, Jordan is hosting Compton and Poly is traveling to Cabrillo while CAMS visits Lakewood. On Monday, Poly will visit Wilson in a first-place showdown.

FRIDAY

High School Football, 7 p.m.

It’s rivalry week in the Moore League as Poly visits Wilson and Lakewood travels to Millikan. The Jackrabbits and Bruins are the oldest rivalry in Long Beach, and Poly is still looking for revenge after forfeits gave the Bruins the 2015 league championship. The Lancers and Rams share the same school blueprint, and this proximity rivalry has been heated in recent years. Millikan won this matchup last year for the first time since 2001.

In other league action, Jordan is visiting Compton in a very important game in terms of playoff position. Compton is still undefeated, and opens its league schedule against the upstart Panthers, who are having their best season in a decade.

Elsewhere, St. Anthony is hosting Agoura at Clark Field in the last nonleague game for the Saints, and Avalon is staying on the road for a game at Hillcrest Christian.

Long Beach State Men’s Water Polo vs. No. 2 UCLA, 7 p.m.

This is the second consecutive Top 5 opponent for LBSU as it returns to Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center for its first true home game. UCLA is 11-0 this season.

Long Beach State Women’s Tennis at UNLV Tournament

LBSU opens its fall season in Nevada this weekend for the annual UNLV tournament that runs through Sunday.

SATURDAY

Long Beach City College Football vs. Riverside, 5 p.m.

This is arguably the biggest nonconference home game of the season for the Vikings (2-1) at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Riverside (2-1) is allowing an average of over 300 yards passing in its first three games of the season. Last year, LBCC won this matchup at home 38-31 in overtime. Riverside had won the last four meetings with LBCC.

Long Beach State Women’s Soccer vs. Loyola Marymount, 7 p.m.

LBSU is back at George Allen Field for the first time in three games, and the 49ers have won all four of their games at home. Loyola Marymount (2-6-2) is 6-1 all-time against LBSU, and the Beach’s only win came on the road in 2013. The Lions have won all three matches since then by a combined score of 5-1.

Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball at Cal State Northridge, 7 p.m.

The 49ers start Big West play this week, and this is their first conference road game of the season. LBSU leads this all-time series 54-24, but the Matadors took a match off of the 49ers last year.
