The Avalon Lancers 8-man football team trounced visiting Desert Christian 52-7 on Friday in their season opener.
Avalon quarterbacks Jose Gomez and Ulises Zavala racked up big gains with receivers
Beto Martinez and Cristo Hernandez. Running backs Jason Campos and DeAngelo Reyes were also very effective for the Lancers offense.
Jose Silva, Diego Rios, Calvin Rios and Cristo Hernandez led the Avalon defense that collected multiple sacks, turnovers, touchdowns and a safety. Desert Christian (1-1) scored 69 points last week.
Avalon opens league play against Rolling Hills Prep next week.
