Congrats to this week’s winners!

HIGH SCHOOL

Jenna Sonnenberg, Millikan Diving

Millikan sophomore Jenna Sonnenberg made history last week, claiming the CIF Southern Section Division 2 diving championship. Sonnenberg finished with a score of 514.30, easily besting second-place Katelynn Shaheen of Crescenta Valley, who finished with 490.90.

COLLEGE

Clayton Andrews, Dirtbags Baseball

The Big West’s best two-way player shined again in a series win over UCSB. Andrews had a two-run single in Friday night’s 9-8 comeback win over the Gauchos, then started on the bump Saturday. Andrews had two hits and two runs Saturday and pitched seven shutout innings, striking out eight.

Courtne’ Davis, Long Beach State Track

The Long Beach State women won the Big West Track & Field championship for the first time last weekend, thanks in part to a great performance from junior Courtne’ Davis. She anchored a 44.63 4×100 relay team, taking first and setting a new school record, then turned around and won the 200 with a time of 23.73.

Kemonie Briggs, Long Beach State Track

Long Beach State junior Kemonie Briggs, a Wilson High product, made history for the 49ers last week by winning the individual Big West championship in the long jump. Briggs becomes just the second-ever Big West athlete to three-peat in the event with a winning mark of 7.92 meter, a 26-foot jump that was so good he didn’t need a second attempt.
