Long Beach State Dirtbags Fall To SDSU

The Long Beach State Dirtbags couldn’t take advantage of late opportunities in a 5-2 loss to No. 23 San Diego State (17-7) on Tuesday at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field. The Dirtbags (10-15) stranded nine runners on base after they left two on in the seventh and had the bases loaded in the eighth.

Reigning Big West Player of the Week Clayton Andrews had a single, double, walk and his team-high seventh stolen base of the season. It is his sixth multi-hit game of the season, and his hitting streak is now at five games.

LBSU sophomore Jacob Hughey started at first base for the second consecutive game, and the Millikan High alum delivered two singles and a run scored before pitching in the ninth. Second baseman Jarren Duran had the Dirtbags’ only RBI with a fifth-inning single.

The Dirtbags stranded nine runners in the game, and had a number of opportunities late. LBSU left two men on in the seventh, had the bases loaded in the eighth and also put a runner on in the ninth to no avail.

LBSU is at Fresno State for a nonconference weekend series from ThursdaySaturday.
