CIF Badminton: Long Beach Poly Beats Marina in Playoff Opener

Moore League champion Long Beach Poly opened the 2022 CIF-SS Division 1 badminton playoffs with a comfortable 17-4 win over Marina on Friday.

Senior captains Prongha Talukder and Krista Lim were standouts for the Jackrabbits in the win, sweeping their respective singles matches while also collecting a pair of mixed doubles victories.

In boys’ doubles, reigning Moore League champions Albert Lee-Theng and Vinny Por were dominant for Poly. On the girls’ side, Soriyah Sam and Nioni England swept their doubles matches.

Junior Juan Vasquez had a pair of wins in boys’ singles and also partnered with Sam for another win in mixed doubles.

The No . 3 seed Jackrabbits advance to Monday’s quarterfinal round, where they’ll host Alhambra.
