CIF Football Preview: Compton @ El Rancho

Compton High is back in the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the first time since 2008, and they’re hoping to make it a long stay, too.

“It’s an exciting time for us, the kids are excited, the community’s excited,” said Compton coach Calvin Bryant.

Bryant was the head coach of the team the last time they made the playoffs, and the last time they won a playoff game, in 2006. This year, they’ll open up the Division 11 playoffs on the road against an 8-2 El Rancho team. The Dons are 8-2 overall and were the runner-ups in the Del Rio League, while Compton was 6-4 and finished third in the Moore League.

The big question will be how El Rancho can handle Compton’s double wing offense, which has piled up 2,707 yards rushing in 10 games for Compton. They’re averaging 270 yards per game and three touchdowns per game on the ground.

The winner of Friday’s game will face the winner of Arroyo and Hemet.
