Cabrillo is still on the hunt for their first win of the 2026 season, and they’re hitting the road Friday night on a mission to get it. The Jags will travel to Maywood Center for Enriched Studies and face off with the Wolfpack.
The West Side has been on the wrong side of the ball in their first few games, suffering brutal losses across the board. Through three games, Cabrillo has been outscored 35-139 against all their opponents.
Head Coach Malcolm Manuel has emphasized using these early challenges to help prepare his team for the Hub City League competition, and this tough non-league schedule is doing just that.
The Jaguar offense will try to break through against Maywood CES. Against Bannings, they were limited to a mere 76 passing yards and less than 10 rushing yards. Quarterback Fernando Leanos battled an ankle injury in this game and will try to get back to his performance shown in the first game of the season.
Cabrillo kicked off the 2026 season against Sonora. Despite a losing result, Leanos threw three touchdowns while sophomore Stephen Walker recorded six catches for two scores and 208 yards.
But, the Wolfpack will be another tough challenge for Cabrillo. Maywood CES is coming into this game with an undefeated 3-0 record, picking up wins over Legacy, Fremont and Dr. Maya Angelou Community. Their most recent win was over DMAC in a 35-14 result where the Wolfpack put up 501 total yards on offense.
One of Maywood CES’s biggest threats is sophomore Roberto Zarate. In his sophomore campaign, Zarate is leading the Wolfpack with 327 rushing yards. He is also a key piece on defense, where he has recorded three interceptions.
On Friday night, the Jaguars will try to slow down Zarate and the Wolfpack’s ground game while finding their footing on offense again. Kickoff is set for 7pm, where Cabrillo hopes to get a point in the win column.
