The Wilson football team is one of a handful of Moore League teams searching for its first win of the season, and the road doesn’t get any easier as the Bruins gear up to face Dana Hills on the road Friday at 7 pm.
Wilson opened the season with a narrow one-point loss to Mayfair and has faced a pair of lopsided losses in its next two matchups. The Bruins took one on the chin against Trinity League opponent JSerra in a 63-0 loss before falling 31-6 in their home opener last week against Huntington Beach while celebrating Wilson’s centennial year.
On the other hand, Dana Hills has opened the season 3-0 with a trio of convincing wins. The Dolphins have defeated San Marcos, Tesoro and Esperanza, outscoring those opponents by a combined 184-24.
The Bruins will have to deal with Dana Hills junior quarterback Carter Anderson, who has completed over 75% of his passes while averaging 226 passing yards per game with 13 touchdowns through the air. Senior receiver Jack Norman is averaging over 100 receiving yards per game, while he and Mason Valles each have five receiving touchdowns. Enzo Gallo has led the Dolphins on the ground, averaging over 80 rushing yards per game.
Offensively, Wilson has gotten off to a shaky start, but the Bruins have seen a standout start to the season from receiver Kyle Harris. Harris is averaging nearly 80 receiving yards per game with three touchdowns, while standout running back Jemel Grigsby is averaging over 70 rushing yards per game.
Last year, Dana Hills handed Wilson its only loss of the regular season, defeating the Bruins 41-7 to conclude Wilson’s non-league schedule. Wilson will finish its non-league slate against Villa Park next week before traveling to former league mate Compton the following week.
