The biggest party in Long Beach this week will be at Seventh and Ximeno on Friday night.
Wilson is celebrating its centennial year and will continue to do so in various ways as they commemorate 100 years since the school first opened its doors.
Friday will be no different at the football game as the Bruins celebrate by inducting their 2026 Hall of Fame class and welcome back numerous football alumni that have impacted the program throughout the years.
The Bruins host Huntington Beach, who was the first team the football team competed against in its inaugural season in 1926. In that first-ever game, Wilson came away with a 15-7 victory when they went on the road to Huntington Beach.
On the field, the Bruins (0-2) are looking to get in the win column for the first time this season after a tough road loss to JSerra where Wilson was held scoreless for the first time under second-year coach Raudric Curtis.
Wilson has plenty of playmakers to get back in the endzone and you can expect a heavy dose of Kyle Harris and Jemel Grigsby as the Bruins look to get the offense going. Grigsby only has seven carries on the year and getting the running game going will be a key to keep the Oilers off the field.
Defensively, senior captain Kingston Meyer leads the team with 29 tackles and two tackles for loss. Meyer is one connection to that 1926 team as the great-grandson to Cliff Meyer, who was a captain and quarterback for the first-ever team.
The Oilers’ offense has been on a tear to start the season as Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds has orchestrated Huntington Beach’s offense with 606 yards passing and seven touchdowns as they’ve averaged 36 points per game.
Edmunds leads the offense with a pro-like approach and can make numerous throws with speed and accuracy. He’s already connected with eight different pass catchers and has helped three receivers in Dylin Bruce, Skylar Robinson and Kye Crump amass 100 or more yards this season.
Bruce leads the team with 226 yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, Bruce is also a menace with two interceptions.
The two get the action started at 7 p.m.
