HIGH SCHOOL
Katelynn Lewis, Lakewood Softball
Lakewood softball put up a tough fight against the fierce Millikan Rams. The Lancers lost a close 3-2 game, but catcher Katelynn Lewis put her team in a fighting position going 1-for-1 with a two run homer. She was walked and hit by a pitch, but on defense, she also threw out a runner trying to steal in the first inning to keep Millikan at bay.
Aleeya Salima and Keola Napoleon-Alvarez, Long Beach Poly Beach Volleyball
The Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits also started their beach volleyball playoff run with a win, clinching a 4-1 victory over Rosary in the first round of CIF-SS Division 3 play. Aleeya Salima and Keola Napoleon-Alvarez earned a 21-14, 21-15 win to lead their team to the win.
Bella Bonales and Aubrey Greene, Millikan Beach Volleyball
Millikan cruised to a 4-1 win over San Juan Hills in the second round of CIF-SS Division 3 playoffs. Bella Bonales and Aubrey Greene won the tightest match of the day, securing the victory on extra points with a 21-10, 17-21, 16-14 win.
Simrin Adams and Sadie Calderone, Wilson Beach Volleyball
It’s been a big week for Beach Volleyball in Long Beach, and the Moore League champion Wilson Bruins are adding to the success. Simrin Adams and Sadie Calderone swept their match against Fountain Valley in a 21-7, 21-10 score to lead the Bruins to a 4-1 win as they start looking to repeat as the CIF-SS Division 2 champions.
Lathan Rivas, Lakewood Baseball
Lakewood secured a big Moore League win against Long Beach Poly in 7-6 walk-off fashion. Senior LHP Lathan Rivas kept the visiting Jackrabbits at bay, pitching 4.1 innings and only allowing two runs on four hits while racking up five strikeouts.
Evan Crucil-Chambers, Millikan Boys’ Volleyball
Millikan Boys’ Volleyball clinched the Moore League title with a sweep over Long Beach Poly on Wednesday. Evan Crucil-Chambers got in on five total blocks to help secure the win.
Tegan Breaux, Long Beach Poly Softball
Tegan Breaux was a key player in Long Beach Poly’s 7-1 win over Moore League rivals Wilson. In the circle, Breaux pitched a complete game, only scattering four hits and allowing one run. At the plate, Breaux was 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI.
Tate Hammond, Long Beach Poly Baseball
Senior Jackrabbit Tate Hammond showed out in his final high school game on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field. In Poly’s win versus Cabrillo, Hammond was 3-for-3 with an RBI and was just a home run shy of completing the cycle in the game.
