Long Beach State’s Madison Le won the Big West Individual Championship in Hawaii on Tuesday. The senior was in a tight battle with Big West Player of the Year Davina Xanh, but held off a late comeback to win the title.
Over the tournament’s 54 holes, Le shot a 208, a score that was -8 under par. This title marks the senior’s first collegiate championship ever and her second Top 10 performance at Long Beach State.
From the start of the tournament, Le established herself as a strong representative for the Beach. The senior set a program record with nine birdies and eight bogeys at the beginning, breaking the program record for a single round with a nine-under par score of 63.
To clinch the title, Le had two birdies in the first nine holes and finished the day with a score of 71 to go under par again. In comparison, Xanh eagled 18 to keep things close with the Long Beach State senior.
But, Le was able to close the day out and finish one stroke in front of Xanh. She also finished five strokes in front of CSUN’s Kim Turgut, who placed third.
With this individual title, Le earned an automatic entry into the NCAA postseason. She will find out her placement at the NCAA Selection Show on April 29th.
