HIGH SCHOOL
Lynnox Newton, Long Beach Poly Track & Field
Lynnox Newton had a big day representing the Jackrabbits at the Arcadia Invitational. Newton competed in a pair of hurdle events on Friday, winning the seeded 110m hurdles with a 13.88.
Clara Adams, Wilson Track & Field
The Wilson Bruins also competed at the Arcadia Invitational. Clara Adams finished in first for the 400m with a time of 53.51.
Julian Lopez, Jordan Baseball
Julian Lopez has been an offensive powerhouse for the Jordan Panthers. The sophomore hit three home runs in a doubleheader at Avalon last week, leading the Panthers to a 26-0 combined-score sweep and seven RBIs in these games.
Andrew Ruiz, Compton Baseball
Andrew Ruiz did it all for the Compton Tarbabes on the diamond. Ruiz had three RBIs on two hits last week and pitched a complete game against Port of Los Angeles, going all seven innings and only allowing two hits while tallying up nine strikeouts.
COLLEGE
Kaiden Smaka, Long Beach State Baseball
Kaiden Smaka delivered the walk-off hit for the Dirtbags against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday night. In the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded, Smaka smacked a ball to left-center to win the game 4-3.
Lina Apodaca, Long Beach State Softball
Line Apodaca had a monster weekend for Long Beach State this weekend against UC Santa Barbara. Apodaca went 7-for-11 at the plate against the Gauchos with four RBIs in the series sweep.
