HIGH SCHOOL

Gissel Fang, Millikan Girls’ Soccer

Millikan senior defender Gigi Fang was the star of the Rams’ quarterfinals matchup against Warren. Not only did she help lead the Rams to a 9th consecutive clean sheet, she scored the game-winner from nearly 40 yards out in the 1-0 win.

Aj Aquino, Millikan Girls’ Soccer

Sophomore Aj Aquino was the hero of Millikan’s CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals game. Aquino scored the game-winner in overtime to lift Millikan over Bonita and punch the Rams’ ticket to the CIF-SS Championship game on Saturday morning against Ayala.

COLLEGE

Nina Sepulveda, Long Beach State Softball

Sophomore Nina Sepulveda had a big weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, highlighted by the Beach’s upset win over No. 4 Oklahoma. Sepulveda delivered an RBI single to give the Beach the lead against the Sooners, then went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in a win over Bethune-Cookman.

Zoie Lamkin, Long Beach City College Women’s Basketball

LBCC sophomore Zoie Lamkin led the Vikings to an undefeated first-place finish in the 3C2A South Coast Conference, capped by a 71-49 win over Cerritos in the regular-season finale. Lamkin scored a game-high 21 points in the victory as the Vikings now turn their focus to Ventura in the first round of the SoCal Regional playoffs.

Eli Aquino began working with The562 as part of its inaugural intern class in 2021 and continued throughout high school as a freelancer. He joined The562’s staff in 2024 and was later promoted to Editorial Associate & Staff Writer. He is currently in his second year at Long Beach State.
