Long Beach Poly closed their wrestling duals with a 58-17 victory over Cabrillo after opening the event with a sweep of Compton on Thursday.
Against Compton, Poly jumped out to an early lead due to multiple forfeits. Lincoln Chung was the first wrestler to compete, defeating Tylon Weaver to extend the advantage to 36-0.
Poly continued to control the dual by stringing together pins, including a competitive bout between Darian De La Torre and Kevin Gomez in which De La Torre held on under pressure. Poly swept the remaining matches to complete the win.
Poly then faced Cabrillo, earning a 58-17 victory. Cabrillo took the opening match, followed by a hard-fought bout between Martin Ornelas and Jeremy Arias that ended with Arias securing the win to give Cabrillo an early 11-0 lead.
Poly responded when Knox Espinoza pinned Jonathan Marcos, cutting the deficit to 11-9. The Jackrabbits carried that momentum into the next four matches, building a 28-11 lead. Cabrillo answered when Darian De La Torre defeated Earnest Davis to make it 28-17, but Poly closed the dual by winning the final five matches.
