Compton Boys’ Soccer Preview

The562’s high school soccer coverage for the 2025-26 season is sponsored by Long Beach Poly soccer alum Kennedy Justin.

It’s a youth movement at Compton as the Tarbabes look to build on their 4-win campaign a year ago.
Coach Javier Cortes is looking forward to leading his team with a that’s really made a commitment to building a culture of student athletes putting in the work, creating good habits and being consistent.

“I feel good about the team,” Cortes said. “(They) are taking pride in the small details in getting better.”
Cortes is looking forward to what freshman center back Julio Vizuete will bring to the team who’s been a consistent presence on the pitch.

“He’s been consistent,” Cortes said. “He’s set a good example for others, but like everyone else he is focuses on continuing to improve and help the team.”

Along with Vizuete, the Tarbabes will look to seniors Damian Morales, Danny Mendez and Adam Gutierrez and freshman Edwin Borboa to help the team compete in the Moore League. It’s the first year the seniors have been able to practice on their own campus after being relocated at Roosevelt Middle School and having a memorable season is one way Vizuete looks forward to helping his teammates.

“I want to add more wins to past years,” Vizuete said. “I feel like we all go to work as a team to keep adding to our record and having a good record. We have to work together and just be the best version of ourselves.”

The Tarbabes (0-0-1) started the year with a scoreless draw against St. Paul and will be back in action when they take on Compton Early College Thursday.

Vizuete is already enjoying what this team has been able to do and looks forward to the rest of the season. C-High will open Moore League play when they host Lakewood on Dec. 17.

“I feel like the most important thing is motivation,” Vizuete said. “I feel like that’s what this team has. We want to get better, we want to keep pushing for victories and getting better as a team. Practice by practice. Game by game.”
