Long Beach Poly football coach Justin Utupo is out after just one year with the Jackrabbits, Utupo confirmed. The Poly football families have been informed of his resignation after a disappointing first year that saw the Jackrabbits go 5-5 with a forfeit loss, and saw them miss the playoffs for just the second time since 1979 after administration voluntarily withdrew them from the playoffs. The season was marred by the CIF Southern Section ruling six players ineligible (one of whom was later granted eligibility under a hardship ruling).
“It has been a blessing to lead this historic program, and I’m grateful for every player, coach, and family I’ve had the honor to work with,” Utupo said in an interview Wednesday. “I love this team, and I will continue to support these student athletes as best as I can.”
