Women’s Soccer: Long Beach State Can’t Score In Draw Against UC San Diego

The562’s coverage of Long Beach State athletics for the 2025-26 season is sponsored by Marilyn Bohl.

Throughout many of their matches this season the Long Beach State women’s soccer team has had a lot of really good chances to score.

However, converting those chances has been the Achilles heel for the Beach and that was the case Thursday night as they finished in a scoreless draw to UC San Diego at George Allen Field.

Much like their scoring opportunities that have slipped past them, Long Beach State (5-6-5, 2-2-4 Big West) is running out of opportunities to sneak into the postseason as they are currently in seventh place in the Big West.

They will need to win both of their next two games against Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge to give them the best shot – while also needing help from other teams to get in.

“I thought we had a couple of really, really good looks that I thought we could have done better with,” Long Beach State coach Mauricio Ingrassia said. “But, you know what? I thought my team fought, played well, played hard. They played very hard today. It wasn’t for the lack of trying.”

LBSU outshot UCSD 12-8 including 4-2 in the first half of play. Radisson Banks continued to attack the Tritons’ defense and fired off a close shot in the 18th minute which was off the mark, but a few seconds later LBSU was awarded a corner kick and Ameera White got a shot off but it was wide right.

The Beach’s pressure same in spurts and White had another shot opportunity in the 24th minute but it was just high. LBSU continued to pressure but couldn’t connect on their shots as they went into the half scoreless.

“It wasn’t for lack of try,” Ingrassia said. “It was a situation where it was a tight game against a good defensive team and you’re going to have to be clinical. You have to find a corner. We had a couple in the first half, especially the one that fell to Radisson I believe.”

In the second half, both teams started to battle back and forth and Banks found herself in a great position to score to give LBSU the lead but her bicycle shot was saved by UCSD’s Charlotte Wilfert.

It was a made dash in the second half as both teams were searching for a win, but neither was able to find the back of the net.

“It could have been a spectacular night with Radisson’s bicycle but the keeper was pretty good,” Ingrassia said.

Aurora Schuck had a big night in goal with five saves.

The Beach will now wrap up conference play when they travel to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday before wrapping up the regular season on the road against Cal State Northridge on Oct. 30.
