St. Anthony is on the road as they hunt for their first win of the 2025 season. However, they’re visiting Rio Hondo Prep where the Kares are sitting on a 5-0 record while trying to stay undefeated.
The Saints have had a tough schedule to start the season, facing three Top 200 opponents in the state of California so far. St. Anthony is currently ranked No. 432 on MaxPreps, dropping after a loss to Valley Christian last week.
Rio Hondo Prep is sitting at No. 171 in California, making them the fourth opponent in that Top 200 ranking the Saints will face this season.
St. Anthony can repeat their pattern from last season on Friday night. In 2024, the Saints were off to another 0-4 start before picking up their first win on their fifth game. They were able to turn it around last year, igniting a deep playoff run that took them to the CIF Championship game.
Despite last week’s loss, St. Anthony will rely on some of their big players to carry them to their first win. Junior quarterback Aidan Jones will continue his work for the Saints, already being named the team’s Offensive Player of the Game twice this season.
The Kares are looking to continue their offensive firepower, outscoring their opponents 176-57 through their five wins. Their captain and senior running back Noah Penunuri is back in action for his second game of the season after suffering a spearing in week zero that left him with bruised ribs.
Penunuri saw limited time on the field last week but still managed to score a 5-yard touchdown to give Rio Hondo Prep a 36-0 lead. Junior Christian Lee also had some carries for the Kares, scoring two touchdowns on 55 rushing yards.
The two teams are set to kick off in Arcadia at 7pm.
