Long Beach In NFL and College Football

With the NFL and college football seasons in full swing we checked in around the country to see how some guys are doing with their respective teams.

Long Beach Poly

Juju Smith-Schuster had one catch for five yards during the Kansas City Chiefs contest against Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Smith-Schuster is second on the Chiefs for receptions and yards with five catches and 55 yards, respectively.

Jack Jones started his second game with the Dolphins since signing with Miami in the offseason. Jones had two tackles against the Patriots on Sunday to bring his season total to eight.

On the opposite side, Alex Austin is in his third season with the New England Patriots and got the start with Christian Gonzalez out with an injury. Austin had three tackles in the win against Miami.

At the collegiate ranks, Bryun Parham has gotten off to a nice start with UConn after transferring in from Washington. Parham leads the team with 24 tackles and five sacks. In the Huskies’ 44-41 overtime loss to Delaware, Parham had 10 tackles and three sacks.

At Arizona, Dom Lolesio has seven total tackles and one sack for the Wildcats. As a redshirt sophomore, Lolesio has appeared in all three games.

Wendell Moe has secured his position anchoring the Tennessee offensive line and was a big reason the Vols were able to amass nearly 500 yards of offense during the team’s game against Georgia. The Vols are ranked No. 15 in the nation.

Tyson Ruffins transferred to Cal this season and has started all three games at center for the Golden Bears. It’s the first time in his collegiate career Ruffins is playing another position outside of left guard.

Chubba Maae is with Arizona this year and after playing exclusively on the defensive line to start his college career at UC Davis – Maae is now back on the offensive line playing left guard. Maae played both sides of the ball at Poly so this is not a big change for the redshirt senior.

DeSean Jackson has already made an impact in his first head coaching job at Delaware State. Along with creating a pipeline of Long Beach athletes to Delaware, Jackson has the Hornets off to a 2-1 start, surpassing the team’s one win from a year ago.

Millikan

Tacario Davis is in his first season with Washington after playing the first three years of his

college career at Arizona. Davis already has two pass deflections and one interception in his first two games for the Huskies.

Ryan Pellum, the first All American in Rams history and 2023 Moore League Player of the year, has landed with Delaware State. As a redshirt freshman this year, Pellum has one catch and has been a returner for the Hornets on special teams.

Jordan

Jordan Washington has played in two games at running back for the Washington Huskies as a redshirt freshman. In his two appearances, he had four carries for 15 yards against Colorado State and six carries for 33 yards against UC Davis.

Wilson

Joel Bitonio has continued to be a force for the Cleveland Browns in his 12th season. According to PFF, Bitonio ranks fifth in the league with offensive snaps played at guard. The Browns are off to an 0-2 start.

Deuce Weston has already appeared in three games for Delaware State as a true freshman. He has 14 carries for 70 yards and one touchdown. He also has three catches for 12 yards.

Long Beach City College

Thaddeus Dixon is with North Carolina after transferring in from Washington where he spent two years after playing for the Vikings. Dixon has played in two games and has five tackles and leads the team with two pass breakups.
