As a registered 501(c)(3), The562 is a unique news outlet that relies on reader donations to stay in business. Since 2018, the Long Beach community has stepped up to keep our award-winning coverage around, but fundraising is a constant, vital piece of our business model.
Over the past 7+ years, we’ve expanded our freelance staff, invested in improved multimedia equipment, added a paid student internship program in partnership with the Long Beach Unified School District, launched our very own Student Photo Competition, and much more.
The562’s core mission is highlighting and celebrating Long Beach’s athletes and their achievements, while providing that coverage at no cost to the reader. But just because there’s no cost to view our coverage, that doesn’t mean it’s free to produce. We have expenses like any other business, and our future depends on the generosity of readers.
Any donation made to The562 is tax-deductible, and every dollar we raise goes right back into producing more of our coverage. More game recaps, more highlight videos, more photo galleries, all of it.
