Preview: Compton vs. Dorsey, Football

After getting bottled up last week the Compton football team and its offense will try to get back on track when they host Dorsey Friday night.

Last week, the Tarbabes’ offense rushed for 98 yards and didn’t score in a 7-3 loss to Paramount. With a heavy reliance on the running game, Compton wasn’t able to get things going as the Pirates loaded the box ready for the run.

Compton (2-1) will have to make some adjustments this without sophomore Trevon Fair who will be out at least a couple weeks after suffering an injury last week. Fair was the team’s QB to start the season and was a big part of the offense with multiple 100-yard rushing games.

Nate Willard will have the task of keeping the offense moving in his absence. In three games to the season the junior is averaging 130 yards a game and has scored five touchdowns.

While the Tarbabe offense stalled against the Pirates last week, the healthy Compton defense continued its dominant start to the season holding Pirate to one touchdown and have only allowed two touchdowns this season.

With a strong front seven, Compton will look to bounce back from last season’s 40-6 loss to Dorsey on the field. The Tarbabes were later awarded the win due to Dorsey having to forfeit their contest.

The Dons (1-1) are coming off a 26-6 win against Castlemont after dropping their season opener to Carson. Dorsey will look to be balanced on offense and have an added deep threat with sophomore quarterback Elijah McDaniel and receiver Deuce Johnson.
