The Franklin boys’ soccer team flexed their experience on Tuesday as they defeated Lindbergh 7-1 on their way to capture the LBUSD boys’ soccer Division 3 title at Long Beach City College.
Andres Rocha was a star for the Wildcats, as he scored four goals in the first half to put the game out of reach for Linbergh early.
“A lot of our players are very experienced,” Franklin coach George Paz said. “A lot of them have been in these type of games on the weekend and after school. So for them, it was just about doing it in front of a crowd and on the big stage.”
While Rocha was putting the ball in the back of the net, Alejandro Gomez was setting him up as he assisted on all four of his goals.
With a 5-0 lead at half, Angel Garcia pushed the lead to 6-0 before an own goal extended the lead to 7-0.
Lindbergh wouldn’t be shut out, as Ruben Nuevo scored late in the game to make it 7-1.
With the lead, Paz was able to give some of his younger athletes some experience playing on the high-stakes stage to be the next in line for the Wildcats.“
All lot of our team know we have to have a next man up mentality,” Paz said.
