The Long Beach City College softball team made history this season by winning their first conference championship since 2002. The Vikings’ win over El Camino handed them the South Coast Conference title at the conclusion of the 22-2 season.
Coach Megan Martinez was named SCC Coach of the Year, with Hailey Harris earning SCC Pitcher of the Year honors. The Vikings finished the year ranked No. 4 in the state, and Anaya Togia earned Conference MVP honors for LBCC after a year leading the conference in batting average (.507), RBI (39), homeruns (8) and hits (68).
Other LBCC honorees included first-team all-conference MIchelle Cervantes, second-team all-conference Jaela Ruiz, and Zara Mineo. Additionally Sienna Rievley, Mikaela Pacheco, and Haleigh Jacobs were named honorable mention All-SCC.
The Vikings open the state playoffs today and tomorrow against Bakersfield at home.
LBCC Baseball Makes State, Too
The LBCC baseball team earned their way into the state playoffs again this year despite a rough stretch at the end of the regular season. The Vikings will open up today and tomorrow against Glendale.
