Alex Beverly and Charlie Ginsberg, Wilson Girls’ Beach Volleyball
The defending CIF-SS Division II champion Wilson Girls’ Beach Volleyball team continues to make a statement on the sand. The freshman duo of Alex Beverly and Charlie Ginsberg secured a huge three-set win against Long Beach Poly.
Alex Orbiso, Millikan Boys’ Volleyball
Freshman setter Alex Orbiso had a big night setting up the Millikan Rams against the Wilson Bruins. Orbiso got all his hitters involved with five Rams finishing with five or more kills in the three-set sweep.
Ivan Van Divort, Wilson Boys’ Lacrosse
The Wilson Bruins took sole possession of first place in the Moore League after an 11-6 win over Millikan. Wilson captain Ivan Van Divort scored a hat trick in the Bruins’ big win.
Riley McAndrew, Millikan Softball
Millikan’s Riley McAndrew played a big game on both sides of the ball in the Rams’ dominant 9-0 victory vs. the Lakewood Lancers. McAndrew pitched six shutout innings in the circle, striking out seven Lancers while also going 2-4 with two RBIs at the plate.
Neil Morris, Long Beach Poly Baseball
Long Beach Poly secured a walk-off win over Lakewood after a huge performance from junior Neil Morris. In the 7th inning, Morris hit a leadoff triple and scored the winning run.
Malakai Pruitt, Long Beach Poly Baseball
Malakai Pruitt anchored the Jackrabbits with a strong pitching performance against Lakewood. Pruitt spent six innings on the mound for Long Beach Poly in the 2-1 walkoff thriller.
Cooper George, Wilson Baseball
Wilson ace Cooper George pitched a gem to propel the Bruins to a 1-0 win over Millikan. After 6.1 innings on the mound and 110 pitches, the junior TCU commit gave up five hits, no runs and 10 strikeouts.
COLLEGE
Jason Gerfers, LBSU Baseball
Freshman pitcher Jason Gerfers earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row after another strong showing for the Dirtbags. Gerfers pitched another complete game against Cal State Bakersfield, only allowing one run on four hits while striking out 12 and only walking five on 135 pitches.
