The Millikan girls’ soccer team is making its first appearance in a CIF-SS championship game today as they gear up to take on Ayala in the Division 2 championship at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 10:30 a.m.
The undefeated Moore League champions enter the matchup coming off a dramatic overtime semifinal win over Bonita. AJ Aquino scored the viral goal off a back-heel pass from Furby Rios to send the Rams to the championship.
The win came after victories against Warren, St. Genevieve and El Segundo, in which Millikan shut out each opponent. In fact, the Rams have held a clean sheet in 10 consecutive games dating back to January 9.
Ayala finished the regular season 6-2-2 for a second-place finish in the Palomares League. Similarly, the Bulldogs haven’t given up a goal through their playoff run and have outscored their opponents a combined 11-0 through four games.
The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant 3-0 decision over San Marino in the semifinals. Ayala also beat Saugus, Beckman and Buena en route to Saturday’s championship.
