Kirby Sheets, Millikan Boys’ Soccer

Sophomore Kirby “Clean” Sheets had a huge night in the Millikan goal during the Rams’ first-round matchup against Paramount. He had a pair of clutch saves in OT, then saved two of the three PKs he faced to send Millikan to the second round.

Janiah Lorn, Jordan Girls’ Basketball

Jordan senior Janiah Lorn came through with a game-high 18 points in J-Town’s first-round win over Roosevelt. Lorn had 16 of her points in the second half as Jordan now gears up for its third-round matchup against La Canada following a win against Lancaster.

Emily Alvarez-Smith, Wilson Girls’ Basketball

Wilson’s Emily Alvarez-Smith scored 14 as the Bruins picked up a first-round win against Hesperia. Wilson beat Westlake in the second round and is now preparing for its third-round matchup against El Dorado.

Jeremiah Hunt, Millikan Boys’ Basketball

Jeremiah Hunt was huge for Millikan during its overtime thriller against Windward. The senior finished with a game-high 28 points, including the free throw to send the game into overtime. Millikan is preparing for its third-round matchup against Rancho Christian.

Aaron Chiles, Jordan Boys’ Basketball

Aaron Chiles carried the Panthers through the final stretch of the night in a second-round win over Torrance, knocking down a huge three to break a 62–62 tie with less than two minutes to play. The junior led all scorers with 21 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter and six consecutive made free throws to seal the victory. Jordan is now gearing up for Shalhevet in the third round.

Alexandra Rios, Millikan Girls’ Soccer

Millikan’s Furby Rios is up to three goals already in the CIF-SS playoffs and scored the only goal during a a 1-0 win over St. Genevieve. Millikan is now preparing to take on Warren in the the third round.

Chris Anguiano, Millikan Boys’ Wrestling

Millikan junior Chris Anguiano won the 157-pound gold on Saturday at the CIF-SS Northern Division qualifier.

Selieni Paseka, Long Beach Poly Girls’ Wrestling

Long Beach Poly senior Selieni Paseka won the 190-pound gold on Saturday at the CIF-SS Southern Division qualifier.

Eli Aquino began working with The562 as part of its inaugural intern class in 2021 and continued throughout high school as a freelancer. He joined The562’s staff in 2024 and was later promoted to Editorial Associate & Staff Writer. He is currently entering his second year at Long Beach State.
