The Moore League girls’ basketball season has been historic this season and Wednesday night continued to prove why as Wilson and Jordan found themselves in a battle looking to solidify their position at the top of the standings.
In the end a rebound and put back by junior Harmony Isaac scored the game winner to give the Panthers a 42-40 Wednesday night to put them in a tie for first place with Lakewood heading into their contest against Lakewood on Friday.
“I thought we were going to go into overtime,” Jordan’s Harmony Isaac said. “But luckily I made it. It was definitely a back and forth game. Anyone could have won the game, but I’m glad we did.”
Early in the first quarter both teams traded baskets as they looked to get into an offensive rhythm as freshman Mila Hunt scored 4 points as the game was tied 7-7 at the end of the period.
Isaac started the second quarter on fire as the junior drained back-to-back threes to put the Panthers up 13-7. Wilson (15-6, 4-2) responded with their own 7-2 run as they went into the half trailing Jordan 15-14.
Janiah Lorn and Jah’asharee Moore pushed the lead to 20-14 at the start of the third and coach Wesley Rosenbaum was happy with how the team fought and was impressed with how Hunt performed.
Wilson didn’t back down as both teams started to get things going offensively as Jordyn Jefferson used her size to dominate in the paint as she scored 12 of her 18 points in the third quarter as they tied game at 30.
In a game of runs ,Hunt scored four of her 10 points in the final period as the Panthers (14-7, 5-1) took an 8-0 late in the fourth period.
The Bruins answered right back with another run as Emily Alvarez-Smith and Kennedy People led Wilson on a 8-0 run to tie the game with 14 seconds remaining.
That led to Isaac’s put back game-winner to put Jordan into a first place tie with Lakewood. Wilson host Cabrillo on Friday.
