HIGH SCHOOL

Michael Gutierrez, Lakewood Boys’ Soccer

Michael Gutierrez is leading a strong attack for the Lancers. The senior has scored 11 goals through six games. Last week, Gutierrez notched seven goals with two hat tricks and a singular score across three games.

Nicole Comia, Long Beach Poly Girls’ Wrestling

Nicole Comia kickstarted a powerful victory for Long Beach Poly girls’ wrestling over Lakewood. After her pin gave the Jackrabbits a 12-6 lead, they went on to win 60-18 against the Lancers.

Sammy Timu, Long Beach Poly Boys’ Wrestling

Sammy Timu capped off a strong win for the Long Beach Poly boys’ wrestling team against the Lakewood Lancers. After sitting out part of the football season, Timu helped the Jackrabbits secure a 61-12 victory with his pin.

Eliana Mao, Long Beach Poly Girls’ Basketball

As Moore League girls’ basketball kicked off this week, Eliana Mao was a game-changer for the Jackrabbits. The freshman scored a career-high 20 points to lead Long Beach Poly to their 212th consecutive Moore League victory.

Matthew Searles, Wilson Boys’ Basketball

The Wilson Bruins secured a tough 54-48 win over Cabrillo. Senior Matthew Searles had a team-high 16 points to lead the comeback victory.

Malachi Burdette, Jordan Boys’ Basketball

Jordan kicked off Moore League play with an 85-71 win against Lakewood. The Panthers were led by a trio of juniors which included Malachi Burdette, who scored 17 points on the night.

Nina Fife
Nina Fife is a junior at Pepperdine University double majoring in Journalism and English with a writing and rhetoric emphasis. She began working with The562 in the inaugural intern class before being hired as their Social Media Director and now Assistant Editor. Nina is a proud Long Beach schools alum who graduated with valedictorian honors.
