It’s a familiar story tonight at Clark Field for the St. Anthony football team (3-7). The Saints struggled in their nonleague schedule but earned the Del Rey League’s third-place spot into the playoffs, where they now find themselves in a very winnable bracket for head coach Jeff Magdaleno.
The Saints are the top seed in Division 11 and will host El Monte, the league champion of the MIssion Valley League, tonight at 7pm.
The Saints were the top seed in last year’s Division 10 bracket and are in the same position this year in Division 11. St. Anthony is looking forward to recreating the run they had last year when they made it all the way to the CIF championship before losing in the title game to Silverado.
El Monte (8-2) is led by senior QB Alex Aleman who has thrown for 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. They also have senior RB Aaron Rivera who has amassed 1,000 yards on the ground and scored 12 touchdowns.
We’ll have full coverage of the game.
