Friday night is Senior Night for the first-place Wilson Bruins (7-1, 4-0), hosting the Jordan Panthers (1-7, 0-4) in their final home game of the regular season.
Wilson is riding high after a thrilling and historic win over Long Beach Poly last week, and will need to avoid a classic “trap game” against their visitors from the North Side, who are looking for their first league win of the year.
Don’t be surprised to see senior running back Kori Scott get the chance to put up some numbers. After averaging over 130 yards per game through the first three games of the season, the senior is averaging a little under 85 yards per game. Scott is at 814 yards rushing this season, so a big night could push him over the 1,000-yard mark.
A win for the Bruins would clinch at least a share of the Moore League title–their first in a decade–with one game left on the 2025 schedule. The last time Wilson won a league title without the benefit of an opponent’s forfeit was in 1991.
J-Town is coming off a loss at Compton last week, but there were positives in defeat. The Panthers scored 21 points against the Tarbabes, the most they’ve scored since their season-opener against Crenshaw. Senior running back Marcus Williams should be the focal point of the Jordan offense.
Last year’s meeting went Wilson’s way as they secured a 34-14 victory in J-Town. The last meeting at Wilson High was a 49-43 win for Jordan in an absolute thriller, and these teams have played plenty of exciting games in recent years.
In fact, the two programs have alternated wins in each of the last four meetings, with three of those four games decided by one score.
The latest meeting will be Friday night at 7 p.m.
