Long Beach Poly hosts Millikan at Veterans Memorial Stadium tonight in a renewal of the grudge match that’s become the Moore League’s best game over the last few years, with the Rams winning their first Moore League title in decades thanks to a win over the Jackrabbits last year (their first since 2009).

The game has lost some luster this year as Poly has struggled and the Rams have already lost a league game to Wilson, but it will nonetheless be a pivotal contest for both teams.

The Jackrabbits (3-3, 2-0) beat Jordan 56-7 and Lakewood 21-7 but were outmanned 56-7 by Mission Viejo last week. Poly is beat up coming off the tough loss on the road against one of the most physical teams in Southern California, and could be missing key pieces including QB Deuce Jefferson as they prepare for the Rams. Poly will have to hang their hat on a defense that has been stellar in their games against teams other than Mission Viejo.

Millikan (2-5, 2-1) got off to a slow start at Jordan last week, and will look to get it going faster against Poly. Their line will have to protect freshman QB Jonah Tuaniga well enough for him to get the ball off.

Hanging over the game like a cloud was the fact that the two teams both had several players ruled ineligible by the CIF Southern Section office this year, which has left them both not looking the way they expected to coming into this contest.

Poly will host Wilson next week at Vets, while Millikan will host Lakewood.
