It’s safe to say both teams are hungry for a Moore League win Friday night, when Millikan heads north to take on Jordan at 7 pm.
Millikan is coming off a disappointing outing against Wilson, which handed the Rams their first Moore League loss since 2023. It was a forgettable night on both sides of the ball, and they’ll need a win Friday to get back above .500 in league play.
It’ll be important to get freshman talent Jonah Tuaniga back into rhythm at quarterback, and he has a handful of reliable targets to help do just that. The Rams’ speedster Landon Ross had 6 grabs for 86 yards and a touchdown last week, while fellow senior receiver/tight-end had 8 receptions for 79 yards.
So far this season, the Rams have thrown the ball twice as many times as they’ve run it, and they’ve leaned on senior Samson Khan when they do choose to hand it off. Sophomore Ryan Carter has also been involved in the run game, and the pair have nearly split carries through the halfway point of the season.
On defense, Millikan will be in charge of stopping an athletic duo in the Jordan backfield, where QB Sama’Jay Jackson and RB Marcus Williams have been a one-two punch through the ground. QB Caydyn Hampton could also be involved and has shown positive flashes in the Panthers’ passing game.
The Panthers’ have a couple experienced options through the air in receivers Marquice Horton, Kymani Hill, and Kani Swisher, while Williams has also been involved in the short-yardage pass game. Williams had the Panthers’ only score last week on a 23-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter against Charter Oak.
Jordan has been unable to pull out a win since its victory over Bell Gardens in Week 3. Millikan will come as a tough test, being ranked No. 169 in the state according to Maxpreps compared to Jordan at 437.
