Looking to bounce back from their Moore League opening loss last week, Long Beach Jordan wasn’t able to keep up with Charter Oak as they dropped their nonleague finale 42-7 on Friday night.

“We have to be able to do the little things right,” Jordan coach Alfred Rowe said. “I challenge them to do every little thing right this week.”

On the Panthers’ opening drive they marched 66 yards – in part to a 41-yard run from Marcus Williams that put Jordan in the red zone. Jordan ended up going three-and-out and ended up missing the field goal.

Jordan’s defense responded as they forced a 3-and-out but both teams couldn’t get into a rhythm but the Chargers’ special teams came up with the first play of the game as they tipped a punt attempt and Jacob Martinez caught it and returned it to put Charter Oak up 7-0.

After both teams traded punts, a Jordan (1-4) fumble was recovered by Charter Oak to set the Chargers’ up with a short porch.

Purdue commit Corin Berry gets loose for an 11-yard run and then finds Damian Huff to push the lead to 14-0 with 8:29 left in the second quarter.

Looking to stretch the field Samajay Jackson gets picked off on the first play of Jordan’s next drive, but Trejon Spears comes right back with his own interception and the Panthers have a short field, looking to cut into the Chargers lead.

High School Football: Jordan vs. Charter Oak

Purdue commit Corin Berry led the Charter Oak football team to a 42-7 nonleague when over Long Beach Jordan on Friday.

Charter Oak (4-1) defense came up big and forced another 3-and-out, and on the punt attempt the Chargers came up with another block and they took over at the Panthers 5-yard-line.

Torry Huff gets in on the action with a 5-yard touchdown and Charter Oak takes a 21-0 lead.

In the second half, Jordan’s defense came up big again as Myron Valentine came up with the Panthers second interception. However, Jordan’s offense couldn’t take advantage of the field position and settled for a field goal that would be short.

That’s when Berry and company got things going as Berry scored a 5-yard touchdown on the next drive to go up 28-0 and then Charter Oak extended the lead to 35-0 on their next drive as Berry found Antonio Reasby for 46 yards and Torry Huff scored on a 12-yard run.

“I wanted to try to get us in a rhythm and a flow because the parody in our league is such that you have to play your best football,” Charter Oak coach Dominic Farrar said.

Berry continued to find Reasby and the two connected for a 40-yard touchdown to take a 42-0 lead. Reasby finished with six catches for 141 yards and Berry had 263 yards and two touchdowns.

Jordan’s Marcus Williams scored on a 23-yard touchdown to make sure the Panthers wouldn’t be shutout.

The Panthers will be back in Moore League action next week when they host Millikan.
