HIGH SCHOOL
Janiah Lorn, Jordan Flag Football
Lorn had a good showing in the Panthers’ game against the Wilson Bruins last Thursday. The senior had three rushing touchdowns, one passing touchdown and one receiving touchdown along with two successful 2 point conversion attempts and two interceptions. Jordan took down Wilson 34-8 behind this huge showing from Lorn.
Holly Ibarra, Millikan Flag Football
The Millikan Rams focused on using explosive plays that propelled them to a win over the Lakewood Lancers. The junior quarterback threw three touchdowns in the 18-2 victory.
McKenna Iamaleava, Long Beach Poly Girls’ Volleyball
McKenna Iamaleava had a huge week for the Jackrabbits, as they took sole possession of first place in the Moore League with wins over Millikan and Wilson. On back to back nights, the junior outside hitter racked up 18 kills per match, adding 21 digs to her monstrous performance against the Rams.
Zion Anderson, Long Beach Poly Football
The Jackrabbits kicked off Moore League play with a 56-7 win on the road at Jordan. Sophomore Zion Anderson has been off to a good start with Long Beach Poly this year and continued that success on Friday night. Anderson scored three touchdowns in the Jackrabbits’ Moore League win.
Jonah Tuaniga, Millikan Football
Jonah Tuaniga had a historic night for the Rams in just his second start of the freshman quarterback’s young career. Tuaniga was 20-for-24 with 508 yards and nine touchdowns on the night. The freshman was instrumental in Millikan’s 63-0 shutout win against Cabrillo.
Tiwan Jones, Lakewood Football
Tiwan Jones has been showing up big for the Lancers this year and continued impressing on Friday night against Compton. The senior scored three touchdowns and had over 150 receiving yards in the 31-0 shutout win for Lakewood. One of these touchdowns came from a punt return, kicking off Lakewood’s Moore League play with a dominant victory.
COLLEGE
Sidney Hamaker, LBSU Women’s Volleyball
LBSU Women’s Volleyball had a successful week, claiming three big wins to improve to 7-4 on the season. Freshman middle blocker Sidney Hamaker had a great showing in the Beach’s win sweep against Portland at the UniWyo Invite. Hamaker hit .571 with a season-best 13 kills. She committed just one error in 21 attempts (13-1-21) and had two blocks and a service ace to add to her performance.
Jack Cantlay, LBSU Men’s Golf
The Beach’s Men’s Golf team has been off to a good start in their 2025 season, claiming back-to-back wins after coming out victorious at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. Cantlay closed the tournament with a 5-under par 67, including an eagle on his final hole. The senior climbed 24 spots on the leaderboard to tie for fourth place at 7-under par, leading his team to a victory over hosts New Mexico by six strokes.
