PREVIEW: Cabrillo vs. Big Bear, Football

The562’s coverage of Cabrillo Athletics is sponsored by the Cohn Family.

Cabrillo is looking to bounce back this week in their matchup vs. Big Bear. The Jags suffered a rough 55-7 loss at Banning last week and are now sitting with a 1-2 record.

After having their offensive stunted last week by Banning, Cabrillo will try to turn it back on this week. The big successes for the Jags so far have been junior Danny Lopez and freshman Stephen Walker.

Lopez scored a touchdown in Cabrillo’s win over LA Jordan and has been strong on both sides of the ball through each game. Walker is only a freshman but has already made some big moves for the Jags. The young wide receiver has picked up a couple touchdowns through the three games thus far.

Big Bear has a swapped record from the Jags, where they currently sit at 2-1 and are fresh off a 37-30 win against Rosamond.

The Bears have a strong offense that has been powering them through their first three games. Sophomore Mason Duprey has 263 passing yards where he has been able to find senior Savion Sorapuru in the air for 201 receiving yards.

They’ve also found some success with their running game on the ground. Juniors Jordan Weisshart and Elijah Ramirez are the team’s leaders in rushing yards where they have 224 and 173, respectively. Ramirez is also the team’s leader in TDs, where he has taken five to the house so far.

This will be Cabrillo’s home opener for the 2025 season. Game time is set for 7pm on the West Side.
