Long Beach Baseball Club Launches Team-Naming Contest

The Long Beach Baseball Club launched its team-naming contest today for the new independent professional baseball team coming to Long Beach in 2026. The contest will remain open through Sept. 12, 2025.

“We want the community to help us find the right name and have some fun while doing it,” said LBBC President Ena Patel. “This city has such a rich history in sports, arts, music, and culture and we want the team to reflect that. What better way to ensure that than to have the people of Long Beach build this team with us. We’re excited to see what you all come up with.”

The baseball team will be the first pro team in Long Beach since the Armada in 2009. Several other teams set foot in Long Beach before then including locally recognized names like the Riptides, the Barracuda, and the Breakers.

The Long Beach City Council unanimously approved the Long Beach Baseball Club in July, and the team will join the Pioneer Baseball League with the aim of beginning play in May 2026. The team is working with Long Beach State in hopes of reaching an agreement to make Bohl Diamond at Blair Field its home.
