HIGH SCHOOL
Brooklyn Richardson, Long Beach Poly Flag Football
Richardson had a big game on both sides of the ball against Millikan. Richardson was involved in all three touchdowns for the Jackrabbits, with two passing TDs and an 80-yard pick six. On defense, she recorded four sacks in the 20-14 season-opening win.
Jaylah Fuailetolo, Lakewood Flag Football
Fuailetolo had a huge game on defense in Lakewood’s win over Wilson. In her first flag football season, Fuailetolo recorded three interceptions in the 13-6 victory.
Trevon Fair, Compton Football
The Tarbabes got their second win of the season thanks to super sophomore Trevon Fair. Fair did a little bit of everything for his team, rushing for more than 150 yards and throwing a touchdown in the dominant 56-7 win over Centennial.
Thomas Jones, Wilson Football
Jones was a huge utility resource for the Bruins in their 37-14 win against Marina. The senior caught two touchdowns and kicked a field goal. One of these touchdowns capped off Wilson’s big win, as Jones made a couple guys miss and took it home for a 90-yard touchdown.
Tiwan Jones, Lakewood Football
The Lancers got a win over St. Anthony in their home opener, and Tiwan Jones was a big part of the victory. The senior had two interceptions and turned a kickoff return into a touchdown in the 35-14 win.
COLLEGE
Logan King, Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball
The Beach got their first win of the season with a sweep over Oregon State. The 6’2” King recorded 17 kills, 2 block assists, 4 digs and 1 ace through the three sets. King helped spark a 7-1 run in the first set and showed up big in the next set, putting down the set-winning kill in that second set. She continued her offensive rhythm in the third set as well, helping Long Beach claim their first win of the season.
Gabi Acosta, Long Beach State Men’s Water Polo
Long Beach traveled to San Diego for the Triton Invite this weekend, where they came home with two wins over Pomona-Pitzer and No. 20 Navy. Acosta scored nine goals across the two victories, completing a hat trick after just one quarter of play against Pomona-Pitzer.
