After a dominant season-opening win the Compton football team is back home on Thursday as they renew their oldest rivalry against cross-town foe Centennial.
The Tarbabes (1-0) have dominated the matchup over the last 10 years, but both teams are coming off big wins.
Compton rushed for over 300 yards as they defeated Rancho Dominguez 41-0 and Centennial (1-0) defeated Compton Early College 48-6.
The Tarbabes are still working out their game plan after sophomore Trevon Fair got the start under center as Compton awaits answers from the CIF transfer portal.
“We’re trying to figure out what we do well,” Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. “The coaching staff did a great job preparing the guys this week and we’re anxious to play another game.”
After Nate Willard and Trevon Fair combined for five touchdowns, Compton will get another force in the backfield as Ameer Freeman will make his debut.
Compton’s defense will also get a lift as Jay’Rome Norwood and Freeman will add some depth to the Tarbabes’ front seven as they make their season debuts.
“We’re ready to go,” Bryant said.
